Something old, something new

You asked me about golf and age recently. I think my interest really has nothing to do with age directly. Perhaps it has been a long time of looking at it from afar with little or vague interest so I guess you could say it is a result of time.

I simply never knew anyone who played . . . well, except for my god-father and I so wish that I had the slightest interest in trying it out when he wasn't too old to swing a club.

The interest developed from putt putt golf which was "something to do" which let to a curiousity in the golf range at the same complex that has a beautiful view on the New Jersey shoreline overlooking the Hudson River with the Manhattan skyline on the horizon.

It was unexpectedly something both my wife and I enjoyed but I suspect myself more than her. Too intimidated to go to a golf shop I discovered GlobalGolf.com which sold used clubs. The cost of clubs always seemed far too expensive but dropping $2 each to rent a single club at the range, I thought I could get us both a club for the range. I spent a little over $100 and got a used set of irons, woods and a putter for each of us. I couldn't believe the prices. I literally spent $35 on a 7 piece set of irons that 10 years earlier sold for about $700 new, and heck, they are steel so they have aged well.

Since starting the new job I have treated myself to a few new clubs and a nice driver for my wife. The clubs arrived Thursday. I have now retired my $10 putter and moved up to wallet busting $20 putter. I can't wait to get them out on the course later today.—NY
