A bright pop of color in our fairly conservative, old-money neighborhood. I snapped the pic on my way to get a haircut this morning. Later I met K for shopping and dinner. K dropped $2000 on clothes! I made a joke that I get a contact high shopping with her. After the retail therapy, we dined on Dungeness crab cellophane noodles, vegetarian spring rolls, and poached peaches at the chef's counter at Out the Door. All in all, a delightful afternoon and evening. The friends that we stayed with in L.A. are on their way up to San Francisco as we speak. Tomorrow we're supposed to go to dinner with them and a half dozen of their other SF homies, but I'm going to try to get out of it. I just can't find anything in common with them. They're very nice, but we only connect on a very surface level. I can only admit that to you here. Every time I try to clarify this with M, he feels like he has to defend them.—SF

What a pretty picture. I am glad that you could get our and enjoy a nice meal. I am sure M is right on some level defending the group. I do find that it is very easy to isolate myself from certain groups of people because I feel intimidated or insecure. But I also find that that kind of behavior can be seen as stuck up which is exactly the opposite of what it is. Go figure. —NY
