I finally got out on the Delaware River. It was nice to get a break from the 90 degree temps here. I drove out to Pennsylvania with Satoshi and we rented kayaks. We had to get back early and the place we rented from was really slow to get people out on the river so we opted for the 6 mile run instead of 10 which I really wanted to do. There had been warnings for the past couple of weeks for high fast water but they were down yesterday. At one point I got caught in a current taking me off course and couldn't paddle through. Fortunately after giving up the struggle I found another way around. But I will say, it is nice to get caught unsuspectingly by something looking quite harmless to remind on of the power of nature. —NY
P.S. when we stopped by the apartment to pick up the Missus for dinner, I sat Satoshi down in front of the tv and showed him the tv show (Ultimate Alaska Survival) that introduced me to packRafts! He was not phased by the expensive price tag and really wants to get one. So who knows, I might have a packRafting buddy in the near future. He was really impressed that you could go hiking up river then with a light weight boat in your backpack, then paddle back down to our car. Now, I just have to find a place where we can do that! :)
ReplyDeleteDang. How many hours to Pennsylvania? T let you go without her???
ReplyDeleteThe drive was an hour and a half, then we waited in the 90 degree sun in line. The place was terribly slow. Then we had to drive 15 minutes to the river. Anyway, I really wanted her to come along. I was looking forward to the high water but once the water levels made it back to normal I thought she would have joined us but she slept in. Oh well. It was a nice boys day out instead.
