So fun! Love snow hiking. You have a pretty good excuse to get some snow boots and/or gaiters! I'm sure REI would love to help you with that cause. And I'm sure you'd love to help them, help you. (REI whore.)
Yeah, I am thinking gaiters, I bought a nice pair of Sorels from REI a couple of years ago. Then we had the mildest winter ever. I never wore them the first year. I pulled the tags off earlier this year. They are water resistant/proof hiking boots, but not like a nice pair of high rubber boots. I just can't justify the money and closet space for a uni-task boot since I don't live in the woods. Time to get on the REI website!!! Yeah baby!!
On all my hikes, I wear waterproof LL Bean Boots lined with shearling: http://tinyurl.com/b5mkj95 Love them. Love them so much. A little on the heavy side and still a little stiff. I bought them almost two years ago, but, like you, haven't had many occasions to wear them until this year. Now with my weekly hikes, and the recent rains, I've been wearing them in, and I think they'll look even more awesome and be even more comfortable by the end of my yearlong project.
