Looks like some predator caught this feathered friend unawares! A crime scene on a trail in Prairie Creek Redwoods State Park in Orick. BTW, the clover you see is actually sorrel. It's got this bright, lemony flavor. It was a garnish on a soup we had in a four-course dinner the night before (can't even go a few days without getting my expensive-restaurant fix). But somehow, when you see it out in nature (it was all over our campsite, for example), you're not as keen to eat it. I kept thinking about all the things that have peed around or on it! I know M would just pee right outside the tent in the middle of the night, and most likely he tainted some sorrel.—SF

  1. Ha ha . . . Funny, I wouldn't have thought about things peeing on it. I'd be more afraid of eating something bad for me. I think it was W. C. Fields who said, don't drink the water, fish f_ck in it.
