Today I finally got my butt out on the bike to ride to the train station as part of my commute. Going was easy. A half mile on a flat dirt trail then a half mile flying down Main Street riding my breaks the whole way. It probably took me 2 minutes longer by bike than by car. Coming home was another matter. 90 degree heat and a brutal ride up the hill. I though I would stretch the hill out and went out of the way for a less steep ride, but it was still brutal. It was probably 3/4 of a mile up hill. But at least I got to enjoy riding through this tunnel that goes under the dirt trail above (The Old Croton Aqueduct Trail or more accurately The Old Croton Aqueduct State Historic Park). —NY
Do you think you'll continue to ride to the station? I went back to yoga after a month (I've been traveling) and my commute home from the studio also includes a brutal hill. But I don't have the 90 degree temps to deal with! You win! It was like 62 degrees here today. I still remember all the weight you lost riding up that hill in Japan! With the heat, you might accelerate the results.
ReplyDeleteI think the hill (small mountain) was steeper in Japan. It was a couple of miles to the hill then about a mile up with the last eighth or quarter mile being brutal. But I was 15 to 20 pounds lighter back then and about 15 years younger. I think I'd only planned on doing the trip 5 days straight and stretched it into 10 rain or shine. And to my surprise I did lose 5 pounds. I think I will try to start riding the bike to the station once or twice a week. We have t-storms in the forecast for the next 5 days so this week will be limited to one trip. But I do feel better. Today I feel like I have more energy.
