I'll bet they have had something like this in SF for the past 50 years. But anyway, Monday they launched the new commuter bikes. Some 6,000 bikes that you can subscribe for about $100 a year and bike from location to location and not pay anything more if you keep your ride under 45 minutes. Great idea but I wonder how much bicycle deaths will go up this year. And I wonder how many of those will be texting when they die.—NY
I saw this a bunch on Twitter. They look great, but how will they hold up to the real world? What happens if you get a flat? What happens if you're hit by a car?

Tons of people are using them. Seen a number of guys in suit on them too. I'd use them if I had a longer commute from Grand Central. I figure if you are hit by a car and demolish the bike you will be charged to replace the bike. Good question. I will have to look into it. I know you are charged if it is stolen while in your possession.
