This is a view from the top of Wildcat Peak in Berkeley. The whole hike was kind of a metaphor. The way up to the top was long and slow, and the landscape wasn't great--full of poison oak and dried eucalyptus bark. But the panorama kept getting better the higher up you went, until you reached the top, where this big, blue sky was yours to enjoy. This deep-thought moment brought to you by someone who's still plugging her way up the hill, no end in sight.—SF

  1. As my grandfather used to say, "Keep on Keepin On." He also said, "We gonna make it . . . and why is that? . . . because we are never gonna give up." As he got older he said that a lot. It was actually kind of amusing and we still laugh about it. Then we get choked up, then we laugh some more.
