This is a cross-section of one of the cables holding up the Golden Gate Bridge. (On display for educational purposes.) It's about 36 inches in diameter and made up of 27,572 individual wires. Each cable weighs 24.5 tons, and there are about 80,000 miles worth of wire used on the bridge. How do you like them numbers?—SF
That is quite a cable. It almost makes me want to take a trip over to Liberty Island to snap a picture of the life sized Liberty crown at ground level that they have there for educational purposes. Naah . . . too far. :)
