My brother has many tattoos, and all but this one are crap. He got this just after my mom passed away (still a weird thing to write and think about), and it's close to the only sincere thing he's done in a very long time. I don't know if it's because he's in sales, and awkward to boot, but everything that comes out of his mouth is missing the element of authenticity. I just don't buy the touchy-feely semantics he uses with me--it's a little too late for us to be close like siblings are in the movies. As much as I hate to say it, if we weren't related, I wouldn't choose him as a friend. I told M this, and he said, "that's what families are for, to make sure everyone gets loved, no matter what."—SF
I should clarify that I think his intentions are pure, it's just that his delivery is contrived, artificial.
ReplyDeleteYeah, I can agree with that comment from M. I like that. If my brother wasn't my brother we wouldn't be friends. Opps! We aren't since he moved away and told no one in the family. If he wasn't so odd I would have expected witness protection or foul play but it fits his M.O. I am glad you could spend some time with your brother though. And there are plenty of movies were brothers and sisters are not touchy-feely. That is certainly normal. And I love the tat. Very elegant. I wish I could have met her.
ReplyDeleteSo have your family just written him off by now? Or do your parents still try to connect? I wonder if he's recovered from whatever pissed him off and is now just stubbornly staying away--a prideful act and one that gets him the attention he craves. I can see that because it's something I would do. Thoughts?
ReplyDeleteNah, Mom is still searching. I don't think about it much. I sometimes wonder if he threatened or actually hit his wife and their teenage son took him out and they are on the run. Stranger things have happened. Heck just look at all the crazy stuff they do on Breaking Bad. No one has heard from him for years.
