After months on hiatus, the juicer Mark bought for $2500 is back in play. It extracts juice  by using a hydraulic press. Man, is it ever a cumbersome process! You feed the fruit & veggies through the silver tube, where it meets a grinder. Pulp falls into a canvas bag. The bag is folded into a square and placed in the press. Then the hydraulics apply hundreds of pounds of pressure to squeeze out the juice. It took about 2.5 hours to press 24 six-ounce jars of juice. That doesn't include all the time it takes to set up and clean up. Mark was gung-ho at first, and then it soon got to be too tiring to juice every week. And so the juicer sat in the cupboard for at least three months. I loaned him the money to buy this juicer. He hasn't paid me back yet, but I know he will. He's trustworthy that way. My brother? That's another story.—SF

  1. Wow! That is quite a machine!! I thought I was paying a lot when I dropped $250 on mine. Lately I have been lazy too, I find the premium fruit juice which I used to think was expensive is actually about the same as making your own. But I guess your own is better since it is un-pasturized and you know exactly what is going into it.

  2. Whao! I just Googled $2,500 juicer. I thought a regular juicer was a lot of work, but that thing is a ton of work!! But if you get more juice I guess you will save money there. Juicing is freakin' expensive. I doubt I ever get one but it looks like an amazing machine.
